Children + Youth Ministries
At TBC, we are seeking to grow a vibrant and active children’s ministry that will allow girls and boys to grow in faith and participate in service to their community and to the larger world. We provide weekly Sunday School and Children’s Worship activities to help children learn about God and His love at an age-appropriate level. During the school year, we offer Wednesday night programs that allow children the opportunity to hear about missions and service work all over the world and invites them to think about how they can share God’s love right in their own backyard.
We seek to be a congregation where children cannot only learn from positive role models and mentors but can be teachers themselves as they provide leadership in missions and worship. We have an active children’s music program that not only teaches boys and girls the fundamentals of music but also prepares them to be worship leaders in the church. Children also participate in the worship service throughout the year through dramas and serving as Scripture readers.
Of course, we want children to experience the joy of just being with each other, and we seek to provide opportunities to play with old and new friends alike! Vacation Bible School is an exciting week every summer when children come together for games, crafts, food, and great stories. There are movie nights and special trips throughout the year that encourage children to build relationships with one another that we hope will be a blessing for a lifetime.
Ultimately, we believe that the home is where the most important spiritual formation takes place, and so we also seek to encourage and empower parents and families to be the guides in their children’s daily walk of the Christian life. We invite you and your family to come be a part of a new day in children’s ministry at Temple!
The Temple Youth group is made up of 6th-12th graders. We offer opportunities for worship, fellowship and service throughout the year.
Every Sunday morning, our youth meet at 9:30 AM in our Youth House for a time of Bible study. During the 11 o’clock worship service, youth participate through Scripture reading, prayer, music, ushering, and assisting the a/v crew. Once a year, the youth will have full responsibility of the worship service on Youth Sunday.
Our weekly evening activities run September through May. On Sunday nights, Youth Music meets at 4:15 PM to learn and rehearse new songs. At 5:30 PM, Youth Group time begins with a dinner followed by games and activities. On Wednesday nights, our Youth Bells practice at 4:45 PM. After our Wednesday evening dinner, Youth Bible Study meets in the Youth House at 6:30 PM.
Missions and service is an important, year-round emphasis of our youth ministry. The youth travel one Sunday morning a month the Murdoch Center, where they escort wheelchair-bound residents to their Sunday morning worship service. The youth always enjoy participating in the annual Durham CROP Walk. Every summer, the youth take a week-long trip designed to engage them in direct missions and service. Past trips have travelled to Charlotte, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Miami, and Quebec.
Fellowship and relationship building is also an important part of our Youth Ministry. Ski retreats, white water rafting trips, lock-ins, and trips to the haunted corn maze are just a few of the special opportunities for fun that we participate in throughout the year.
