About Our ChurchJesus once said that the greatest actions we as humans take in life are to love God first, with everything we have, and then to love our neighbors as we love ourselves (Matthew 22:34-40). He was saying that the meaning of life is found in relationships: a personal relationship with God through Christ; a relationship with other people; and a relationship with ourselves. This is what Temple Baptist Church is all about-being a Christ-centered church where people can find and build relationships!
What binds us together as Christians is our common faith in Jesus Christ. The centrality of Christ: His deity, humanity, and saving power, is the very foundation of our faith and the cornerstone of Temple Baptist Church. As Baptist Christians, we also share a commitment to the principles that have shaped our unique Baptist heritage and polity:
Soul Freedom: We believe in the priesthood of all believers. We affirm the freedom and responsibility of every person to relate directly to God without the imposition of creed or the control of clergy or government.
Bible Freedom: We believe in the authority of Scripture. Under the Lordship of Christ, the Bible is central in the life of the individual and church. We affirm the freedom and right of every Christian to interpret and apply Scripture under the leadership of the Holy Spirit.
Church Freedom: We believe in the autonomy of every local church. We believe Baptist churches are free, under the Lordship of Christ, to determine their membership and leadership, to order their worship and work, to ordain whomever they perceive gifted for ministry, and to participate as they deem appropriate in the larger Body of Christ.
Religious Freedom: We believe in freedom of religion, freedom for religion, and freedom from religion. We support the seperation of church and state.
Based on these core values, Temple Baptist Church is passionately committed to:
* The Worship of God alone
* Biblical Literacy
* Honoring Our Heritage
* The Power of Prayer
* Nurturing Our Children and Youth
* Practicing Forgiveness
* Being a Welcoming Community
* Missions - being the presence of Christ in the world
To help us fulfill our purpose, Temple Baptist Church currently partners with the following groups: Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (Atlanta and North Carolina); Baptist State Convention of North Carolina; Yates Baptist Association; Interfaith Hospitality Network; CROP; Baptist House at Duke Divinity School; and Campbell University Divinity School. |
