A Trip to Moriah
Most people know the story of Abraham and Isaac, but it's easy to focus only on the dramatic ending. The deeper question is found in the journey itself.
Abraham walked toward Moriah without knowing exactly how God would provide. He simply trusted the One who had always been faithful before.
That kind of faith is still needed today.
Few believers will ever face a test identical to Abraham's, but everyone faces moments that require surrender. Sometimes it's releasing control over the future. Sometimes it's trusting God through uncertainty, disappointment, or unanswered prayers. Other times it's choosing obedience when it would be easier to compromise.
The sermon also reminds us that sacrifice didn't end in Genesis. Romans 12 calls believers to become living sacrifices—not through one dramatic act, but through daily obedience. Faith is expressed in ordinary decisions, generous hearts, faithful service, and lives that continually point back to God.
The beautiful truth is that Moriah was never the end of the story.
The place where Abraham trusted God became a picture of something even greater. Centuries later, God Himself would provide the perfect sacrifice through Jesus Christ. Where Abraham was spared from giving his son, God willingly gave His own so that humanity could receive forgiveness, grace, and eternal life.
Every believer must eventually answer the same question: What is being placed on the altar?
The invitation isn't to fear sacrifice. It's to trust the God who always provides.
